Meet the Outlaw HQ Crew

Picture
Deb doesn't usually wear a tiara (or take selfies), but sometimes you need a little sparkle in your life.

Deb is the owner of Outlaw Yarn which means she does all the stuff, all the time, like all small business owners.  Therefore she is very tired and probably needs a drink.

If Deb was a cartoon character she would be Velma from Scooby Doo.  If you've ever met her husband (aka Shaggy), and her kid (aka Scrappy Doo), this will make perfect sense to you.

Ethan is the God of the Knitting, or possibly just the Pope.  He can usually be found in the shop at HQ dispensing knowledge and occasionally wisdom.

If Ethan doesn't know it, then it's probably not worth knowing, or is some obscure kiwiana reference (we have been educating him with re-runs of Outrageous Fortune, and Kiwi music nights at home).

If Ethan was a cartoon character he would be a cross between Maleficent and Edna "E" Mode from The Incredibles.  To use one of his catch phrases, "I'm not wrong".

This is Pearlin, looking like the serene angel that she is.  Pearlin is our Master Crocheter, and also a knitter.  She is an overwhelming force of kindness and creativity, which cancels out the black vortex of Ethan and Deb.

Pearlin teaches our Learn to Crochet classes and spreads joy  in the shop and the Den on a regular basis.

If Pearlin was a cartoon character she would be Love-a-lot Care Bear because her favourite colour is PINK.

Lou is the newest member of the team and she can't knit or crochet!  However she wants to learn and she's going to blog and vlog all over our social media about what it's like to be a new yarn crafter.

You can follow her adventures here on her blog Never Been Knit.

Lou has fabulous style and we are looking forward to getting to know her better - she's only been part of the Crew for 5 minutes!

If Lou was a cartoon character she would be Josie and the Pussycats. All of them.

This could be you!

We here at Outlaw HQ are needing another team member to join us, to be a Retail and Dispatching Outlaw. The details of the job are below but importantly you will be joining a team of five other people with a passion for fibre.

The Outlaws currently are Deb (Chief Outlaw), Ethan (Head Retail Outlaw), Pearlin (Community Outlaw), Lou (Blogging Outlaw), and Rory (Skeining Outlaw). You will be working with any and all of us depending on the day. We can always help to expand your making skills but what we need is someone who meets the criteria below and is okay to have a bit of fun while working hard. Give a read to the details of the job and then email us at hq@outlawyarn.com with your CV! Feel free to share this with anyone you think might be a great fit for Outlaw HQ.

We cannot wait to see who comes to join us next!

The job at first has two main components as below:
  • Retail
    • Regular shop hours assisting customers selecting yarns and colours for projects in a dynamic team setting. Maths for meterage and yarn quantities are a regular part of the customer interaction and assisting with some fibre related questions.
  • Dispatching
    • Packing and shipping of retail and wholesale orders according to a packing list. Ensuring all items are properly selected and packed before shipping out. Orders range in size from a few items to many boxes. An online shipping system is used for processing each package.
There are some skills that will set you up for success with us:
  • Necessary Skills
    • Fibre Craft background: We welcome anyone to apply who has a working knowledge of Crochet, Knitting, Weaving, and or Felting. Multi-craft applicants are highly desirable.
    • Retail experience and confidence in customer service
    • Basic computer skills and the ability to move 18 kg boxes
    • Casual Part time hours with the opportunity to grow with an expanding organization.
    • Compensation to be discussed with successful applicants
    • Some weekend hours will be required
