Our next Lights Up Knitting session at the Academy Gold Cinema (across the road from us at The Columbo) will be at 7.45pm on Sunday 27 October.
"Lights Up" means that the cinema just dim the lights instead of turning them off completely, so you can watch the movie, but still see your knitting. Of course you don't have to be knitting, crochet or any craft that isn't messy or noisy that you can do sitting in a chair is fine too. Or if you have a friend that doesn't craft, but wants to watch the movie they are welcome too.
Our movie is Judy starring Renée Zellweger. It's winter 1968 and showbiz legend Judy Garland arrives in Swinging London to perform a five-week sold-out run at The Talk of the Town. It is 30 years since she shot to global stardom in The Wizard of Oz, but if her voice has weakened, its dramatic intensity has only grown. As she prepares for the show, battles with management, charms musicians and reminisces with friends and adoring fans, her wit and warmth shine through. Featuring some of her best-known songs, the film celebrates the voice, the capacity for love, and the sheer pizzazz of "the world's greatest entertainer."
We are going to spread some joy to a local charity and use this as an opportunity for a fundraiser. Tickets will be $20 each and all profits will go to Qtopia.
Qtopia is a social support service for gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, asexual, transgender, gender diverse, intersex, takataapui, fa’afafine and curious/questioning young people in Waitaha (Canterbury).
