Seminar: How to Build a Stash

Sit down with a cup of tea and a treat and listen while Ethan breaks down how to artfully create a stash which sets you up for future projects and creativity.

Saturday, 30 January from 3:00 - 4:00 PM in the Outlaw Den (at HQ)

"There are times as a knitter where you want to cast on a project right that very minute, but you are lacking the necessary yarn and the yarn shop is not open for a day, week, or fortnight! The tragic circumstance above can be avoided, by carefully and thoughtfully curating a stash. When you learn the way to build the perfect stash you can shop or swap for yarn without a planned project and still have what you need on hand. In this seminar we will identify common meterage for you to purchase, projects you can use as a base for how much yarn to buy, and rules for building a stash which lights up your creativity and fills your crafting life with joy." - Ethan

Summer Skills Series 2021

The Summer Skill Series is designed to provide you with practical and interesting techniques to improve your knitting skill set - 2021 is the year of cast ons! These bite-sized classes focus on improving little details which make huge impacts on the quality and range of your knitting.

Long Tail Cast On

The most widely used cast on found in patterns today, the Long Tail cast on is a great all purpose cast on which is easy to pick up stitches out of and provides a medium level of stability to the finished edge of the garment or accessory. This class will focus on the slingshot method of Long Tail cast on, how to measure your yarn for cast on, and when to use this cast on if not listed as the preferred method.

Date & Time:
Thursday, 14 January from 6:00 - 7:00 PM in the Outlaw Den (at HQ)

Cable Cast Ons

The Cable Cast On is an evolution of the knitted on cast on that creates a row of working stitches on the needle allowing for a clean edge with good durability that responds well to blocking and is slightly more flexible than a traditional Knitted Cast On. The Alternate Cable Cast On creates a nearly invisible cast on which flows into ribbing of any variety while providing a stretchy and hardwearing edge perfect for the edges of many garments and accessories.

Date & Time: Thursday, 21 January from 6:00 - 7:00 PM in the Outlaw Den (at HQ)

iCord Cast On

iCord has a myriad of uses, from applied edges and cast on's to buttonhole methods but it all begins with the basic 3 stitch iCord. Some designers have begun to more widely adapt this structured and stable cast on which utilizes the skill of iCord to create a decorative and stable edge. If you are looking at making Stephen West patterns in the future this cast on is immensely helpful for success in his patterns.

Date & Time:
Thursday, 28 January from 6:00 - 7:00 PM in the Outlaw Den (at HQ

Provisional Cast On

Patterns knit from the top down as well as multiple different hem types utilize a provisional cast on. All provisional cast ons use waste yarn to create a row of stitches that are later unraveled and the now live stitches are picked up. This technique is increasingly popular in patterns today.

Date & Time:
Thursday, 4 February from 6:00 - 7:00 PM in the Outlaw Den (at HQ)

Tubular Cast On

The highly polished edge created by the tubular cast on is perfect for any even number ribbed edging. The method taught during this class will be the provisional tubular cast on for 1x1 ribbing for creating durable and beautiful garments. There are many tubular methods but the provisional is the most consistent.

Date & Time:
Thursday, 11 February from 6:00 - 7:00 PM in the Outlaw Den (at HQ)
